Confindustria Assoimmobiliare supports the Global Cities Program of the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI). The Program promotes analysis and initiatives on the role that Global Cities play at the global and regional levels and on their interaction with states, particularly in response to critical challenges such as the current pandemic, which makes it even more urgent to address issues such as the fight against inequality, the regeneration of suburbs, and, in general, the adoption of more sustainable lifestyles and development models. The analytical approach is comparative, with the aim of deriving potential policy recommendations from the comparison of international best practices.
Currently, the main strands of analysis and debate concern the relationship between global cities and sustainability, as well as the analysis of urbanization as a crucial aspect of globalization, including in reference to specific regional contexts. With regard to Italy and Europe, in particular, the Program is increasingly focusing on the theme of urban regeneration and on urban policies linked to the challenge of the Recovery Plan. This focus stems from the Program’s emphasis on sustainability and the 2030 Agenda: urban regeneration, in fact, refers to plans aimed at improving—ecologically, socially, and democratically—the most deprived urban areas that are most in need of change. Europe is in many cases at the forefront in this sector, and the Recovery Plan can represent a tremendous opportunity for implementation and growth.
On all the topics mentioned above, ISPI organizes both events—such as international conferences, roundtables, and webinars—and research projects—such as dossiers, commentaries, and training courses within the ISPI School.
